The Reading Problem

• reading / understanding information in instructions, articles and editorials, etc.

• reading and using information in application forms, schedules, maps, tables/graphs

• reading and doing language-imbedded math problems

     Reading difficulty and disability may be self-perpetuating, however, research

     tells us that, with focused intervention for a relatively brief period of time

     (approximately 60 hours), students with word level reading skills around

     the 30th percentile, can raise their level of decoding skills, sight word vocabulary,

     accuracy and fluency of text reading and comprehension (Torgesen, 2003).
